Home  /  Clean Living   /  5 Surprising Cleaning Hacks You Can Do With Dish Liquid

Dish-washing liquid is a household staple, used to cut through grime, grease and food particles. While the name might suggest it can only be used for the obvious, cleaning dishes. We have found several other surprising, yet useful ways to make your dish-washing liquid clean more than just dirty dishes.

Remove grease stains in clothing

Were you enjoying your weekend barbeque and then all of a sudden you looked down and had nasty grease stains all over your clothes? We’ve all been there. As tempting as it is to reach for water and a napkin, don’t. This can make the stain so much worse and harder to remove. Instead, cover the entire area in dishwashing liquid, rub it using your fingers, and throw it in the washing machine. After a good clean, your clothes will be grease and stain-free.

Clean tarnished silver or gold jewellery

Are you getting ready for a night out and wanted to wear that one piece of jewellery that’s going to make you sparkle? Is it looking a little lacklustre and you need a quick fix to spruce it up? Using dishwashing liquid might not have been the first thing to come to mind.

Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid. Let your jewellery soak for fifteen minutes. Then, gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush to make sure the links of your necklace are clean. Use a Q-tip to clean around the prongs of a ring, so you don’t loosen the setting. Rinse and let your jewellery air dry.

Makeup brush cleaner

Are you looking for a cheaper alternative to your current makeup brush cleaner? A little dishwashing liquid on a clean sponge or makeup cleansing glove will help. Gently rub your brush against the surface and massage the bristles to make sure the soap is removing any dirt and excess makeup. Rinse with lukewarm water, wipe with a towel to remove any leftover debris and leave to dry.

Tip: Be careful not to get any water inside the brush barrel, this may cause the bristles to become loose and fall out.

Clean windows

Looking to clean your
windows as a pro would? Many professional cleaners swear by using dishwashing liquid to get streak-free, crystal clear windows. Firstly, rinse the windows with clean water. Then, fill a bucket of warm water and add roughly 1-cup of dishwashing liquid to the mix. Use a sponge to clean the windows and wipe down with a squeegee and Resparkle’s microfiber cloth made of natural bamboo.

Non-toxic pest cleaner

Avoid using nasty toxic chemicals and pest cleaners in your garden, try using dishwashing liquid. Although it wont’ kill all insects, it’s typically handy for getting rid of spider mites, aphids and other insects. Another great use for dishwashing liquid is making sure creepy crawlies don’t come inside in the first place. Try squeezing a line of liquid in door jams and window sills to keep the insects outside.
